Memory Lane to Downton Abbey

27 April, 2016

Our Wednesday Quilters' Group enjoyed a trip down memory lane by attending a tour of the Gloucester County Historical Society's "Downton Style Fashions" at their beautiful historical home in Woodbury, NJ.  While most of us were primarily interested in viewing the outstanding handwork and stitchery of days gone by, our attention was fully occupied by so many other items of interest.
Hunter-Lawrence-Jessup House Museum

Desk once owned by a Haddon, of Haddonfield.

Risqué calendar art....look closely to see the gentlemen getting an eye-full of a shapely ankle!

For some reason this outfit really caught my eye.  So unusual.

Crediting Capt. James Lawrence (once of this house) with the famous words, "Don't Give Up the Ship" - his dying words.

An early homeowner moved his entire family out for about 6 months while he had extensive renovation done...including having German craftsmen come in to create gorgeous wood work.

My favorite book as a young child.

"And bless Santy Claus too"

Stunning knit or crochet dress!  And look at that shape!

After the tour our group drove the short distance to the Woodbury Train Station Café where we had a companionable lunch.
