Life's Challenges Have Me Turning Red!

Taking some time to vent before I finally resume my travelogue - have a tremendous amount to catch up on!

Vent #1:  We were away for a couple of weeks in May.  Since I'd been having trouble with my computer, we left it in the capable hands of our friendly tech to sort out.  When we got home we discovered he'd done nothing to resolve my problems, so back it went to have a transplant of a new hard drive.  And that has led to many other little problems like losing my ability to get onto this blog for one.  Finally solved that today.

Vent #2:  At the same time I was going through the computer woes my phone had to be replaced.  Leading to all the little problems new phones cause....like getting used to its idiosyncrasies and peccadillos.  I really loved my old phone!

Vent #3:  All at the very same time, I noticed I was having problems with my vision.  After having cataract surgery two years ago, I had mono vision lenses...that is, one eye could see fairly near and the other far.  It had been so delightful to go without glasses after over 60 years of wearing them.  But now I was beginning to lose the ability to see road signs, I was having difficulties seeing much at all for up to 10 minutes when entering stores and other large areas, and I was having dizzy spells.  Another thing we discovered was that I was unable to sit on the left side of a tour bus!  I had to keep my left eye closed to do so.  The eye Doc explained that my left eye was the culprit...it was the dominant eye and was hi-jacking my vision.  Soo...while doing without my computer and learning a new phone, I was back in very strong progressive lens glasses.  I am very good with adjusting to change, but there have been times in the last month I could have easily changed places with a stone age woman and done without all the technology!
That didn't last long, however.....

I am a member of the quilt guild Love Apple Quilters.  While I am really, really busy with quilting projects as well as with all the rest of my life, I often participate in activities the guild sponsors just to be a good citizen.  Soooo when they announced they were going to hold a challenge for the summer of 2018 ("just to keep folks quilting and inspired" {as if I need more reasons!}) I agreed to take part.
The challenge is one that many guilds apparently run...it's called the Crayola Crayon Challenge.  Participants draw 2 crayons, sight unseen, from a brown paper bag.  The project you make is to contain those two colors in plain fabric as well as one other color (plain) of either white, off white, beige or any shade of grey or black.
The quilt size is to be no smaller than 18" nor larger than 24".  It is to be square or rectangular.
Ever the stickler for following the rules, I grabbed two crayons from the bag without looking.  Here are the delightful colors I chose!
One reads "Red" and the other reads "Glitter".  Glitter?  Is that a color?  It isn't even glittery.  Bottom line, I've got to combine two red colors and one other, and I don't have a clue!

So off we went to JoAnn Fabrics to see what I could find.  The fabrics must be absolutely plain (no print).  I held these blasted crayons up to every piece of fabric in the store.  No match!  I mean, I found some prints that could pass, but no plain fabric.
An hour after I got home I got an email from my cousin telling me about a quilt shop in DE who was offering a sampler pack of all their fabrics for $3.00!  I would hope that the little swatches they send of every color might be enough to find matches.  Otherwise I may still be travelling shop to shop in October when the project is due!
So I am waiting for the sampler.  Then we'll see.
Meantime, I am berating myself for not being like the members I saw peeking as they pulled their crayons.  But I am determined to make this happen.
Stay tuned!
