21 Sept 2013 - London to Brussels, Belgium

On Saturday, 21 Sept, we departed London and sailed from the White Cliffs of Dover ( often heard my mother mention them, can't remember in what context!) across the Channel by ferry

to Calais - France.

we travelled comfortably about 2 1/2 hours on the bus across France and stayed in a lovely hotel - the Ramada, Av Des Pleiades, Bruxelles.

The view out our window (with reflection!) and

our bathroom.  We had only a few minutes to get refreshed before we left on an excursion of the city.

Brussels is magical!  Really, no other words come to mind to describe it, especially as night falls.

Our guide, Matthew (below in the red jacket) was entertaining and informative.

The tour included a stop in a pub for a free drink - I had wine, Larry had a local beer, and some relaxation with tour friends until time for dinner.  We were at our leisure to walk through town and get whatever we wanted to eat.

But first, Larry was compelled to have an appetizer - a huge Belgium waffle with strawberries and fresh whipped cream!

I decided for us to eat at a Lebanese restaurant, we had lamb kebabs.  It was a delicious choice and we ate it up!  We were seated near an older English couple and after dinner and having had a conversation, they expressed their disappointment in saying '"goodbye" and actually said, "until we see you again."  Not sure how that was going to happen, but we felt good that they wished it.

A few more pictures of the fairy-like city and then back to our bus and to the hotel and bed.
