Day 16 - Monday August 14, 2017

Heading Northward today

Front porch view from our hotel.
An overcast, dreary morning.  However, when we saw Fitzgeralds we brightened considerably.  Have you watched Ballykissangel?

Our next stop was Avoca Mill...but I have to admit, we'd have liked better to stop at Fitzgeralds!  Some folks did walk back in to town to go the chemists for lozenges and other homey remedies for our bus malady.
Avoca is Ireland's oldest handweaving mill.
When I discovered that our stop would include a tour of the mill (read dust and lint) I checked with the manager who agreed my now rampant asthma probably would not appreciate such tour.  So I opted to walk around the beautiful grounds and take some pictures and enjoy the fresh air.

 And on the road again.

 Love the humour!

Literally could not have put my hand between us!

Glendalough, County Wicklow- site of the ruins of a center of Irish Christianity, founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century. One of the most important monastic sites in Ireland.
The "city" consists of a number of monastic remains, the most impressive being the Round Tower which stands 30 m. high.

Beyond St. Mary's Church is the Priest's House, a 12th Century building in the Romanesque style.

And beyond the Priest's House is a large granite cross (6th or 7th century) and the "Cathedral" the largest church on site (11th and 12 Century) and St. Kevin's Church.

In the late afternoon we arrived in Dublin and we topped off the day at the Guiness Brewery with a tour, a very nice meal and time to shop for items in the gift shop.
