Tour Day 24, 22 August 2017

This was a rough day.  We breakfasted with Jude and Glenn and so many folks stopped by our table, and we all felt the amazing friendships we had developed coming to an end.  Many of us exchanged addresses, emails, etc.

There were a few of our travel companions who stayed another night or two in London, but we had to get our last hugs and kisses in with Jude and Glenn and try hard not to let the tears flow.

As I recall, after saying our goodbyes, we got a cab and went to the Post Office to discover how we might ship many of our clothes that will not be needed aboard ship home.  We found the man at the post office very helpful and purchased the boxes he recommended, as well as shipping tape and labels.

Back in our room we sorted the clothing we no longer needed, and packed them, along with a few souvenirs and then went to get another cab back to the post office.  The post office wasn't too far to walk, but the boxes we'd packed were far too heavy to lug that far.  The doorman advised us to simply get into the taxi and once in tell him where we wanted to go.  It seems the taxis line up in front of the hotel and do not like to take short fares.  We did as he suggested, but it didn't help the flare up!  The driver was very upset/angry...pouting the entire trip because "it isn't fair".  Larry had been fully prepared to reward the short drive with a very handsome tip, but his behavior resulted in a much lower tip.  And the best part of it was that Larry actually told him that fact.  He was stunned and gave a half hearted apology.

That was literally the only unpleasant taxi ride we had for the entire time we were away.  We find taxi drivers to be personable and friendly and always ready to assist.

Now that we had lightened our suitcases, we went to Mark and Spencers to shop for clothes more appropriate for the cruise.  Luckily they were having end-of-season sales and we got some terrific buys on just exactly the right thing.

Of course, we had to make several stops at Boots (Pharmacy) because that has become our tradition.  Larry was looking for something to support his knee that had begun to act up and there were various other sundries we needed.

We ate a light dinner in the Starbucks in the hotel lobby.
